Inspiration

Rugs have been a part of human history and culture for millennia. Since the earliest times in our history, skilled weavers have created many types of rugs in different materials. Areas well known for setting a benchmark of craftsmanship and weaving of their rugs came to be known as part of the “rug belt” which consists of Persia, Turkey, most of Central Asia, as well as South Asia. Overtime, the purpose of rugs in the home has evolved from simply providing warmth in early human history to the present day where rugs have become part of our cultural heritage and are a symbol of prestige and class As we entered the 20th century, mechanized processes were developed to create rugs at a mass scale. While this helped proliferate rugs throughout the world, there is an enormous difference between Machine-made rugs and the hand-knotted rugs that we at Tapestry of Rugs represent.
