This 3x13 ft crimson Afghan Mishwani rug combines a flatwoven kilim ground with hand-knotted wool pile raised directly onto the diamond medallions and geometric motifs, creating three-dimensional relief. Five elongated stepped diamond medallions repeat across the field in rust, charcoal, warm brown, golden tan, and cream against a crimson flatwoven ground. A layered geometric tribal border frames the piece. This mixed construction—tightly woven kilim sections alternating with plush raised pile—is one of the most technically demanding styles in Afghan weaving, giving the rug a texture you can feel as much as see.

About Mishwani Rugs:
Mishwani rugs are traditional Afghan wool rugs known for combining a flatwoven kilim base with raised hand-knotted pile, creating a distinctive textured finish. Rich colours, repeating diamonds, and geometric tribal motifs bring warmth and character to your home, while their handmade construction gives each piece individual charm. These versatile rugs add texture and visual interest to living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways.

Rug Care
  • Vacuum regularly on a low or no-beater-bar setting, taking care around the fringe.
  • Rotate the rug every 6-12 months for even wear.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to help preserve color.
  • We recommend a rug pad underneath to prevent slipping and extend the rug's life.
  • For deeper cleaning, use a wool-safe professional rug cleaner every 1-2 years.

Tapestry of Rugs vs. Mass-Produced Rugs

Not all rugs are made the same. Here's what sets a hand-knotted, one-of-one vintage rug apart from a mass-produced one.

Tapestry of Rugs
Mass-Produced Rugs
Hand-knotted by skilled artisans
Machine-made at scale
100% natural wool
Often synthetic fibers like polypropylene
One-of-a-kind — no two are alike
Identical copies made in bulk
Vintage character with real history
New, uniform, no history
Built to last for generations
Built for short-term use
Naturally hypoallergenic wool fibers
Can off-gas synthetic chemicals
Can hold or gain value over time
Depreciates like disposable decor
