This 3 x 4 ft Burgundy Afghan Sherwan rug features a bold geometric medallion design with a large central four-point geometric medallion with stylized floral and leaf-like forms arranged across the field in ivory, navy blue, sage green, mustard yellow, rust and tan. Smaller floral, star, diamond and tribal motifs fill the surrounding
areas, while a multiple patterned borders with cream floral-geometric motifs and narrow geometric bands border frames the rug. The detailed geometric composition, balanced symmetry and rich color palette give this piece the distinctive character associated with traditional Sherwan designs.

About Shirvan Rugs:
Shirvan rugs are rare Caucasian collector’s rugs traditionally crafted by artisans in Azerbaijan. Known for ultra-fine wool quality, precise hand-knotting, geometric tribal motifs, and rich nomadic character, each rug reflects generations of Oriental weaving tradition. Its low–medium pile offers texture, durability, and practical everyday use, while its one-of-one design makes it a distinctive piece of vintage textile art.

Rug Care
  • Vacuum regularly on a low or no-beater-bar setting, taking care around the fringe.
  • Rotate the rug every 6-12 months for even wear.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to help preserve color.
  • We recommend a rug pad underneath to prevent slipping and extend the rug's life.
  • For deeper cleaning, use a wool-safe professional rug cleaner every 1-2 years.

Tapestry of Rugs vs. Mass-Produced Rugs

Not all rugs are made the same. Here's what sets a hand-knotted, one-of-one vintage rug apart from a mass-produced one.

Tapestry of Rugs
Mass-Produced Rugs
Hand-knotted by skilled artisans
Machine-made at scale
100% natural wool
Often synthetic fibers like polypropylene
One-of-a-kind — no two are alike
Identical copies made in bulk
Vintage character with real history
New, uniform, no history
Built to last for generations
Built for short-term use
Naturally hypoallergenic wool fibers
Can off-gas synthetic chemicals
Can hold or gain value over time
Depreciates like disposable decor
