Rugs 101
There are numerous reasons why you would need a rug in your life. A rug can transform any space or area it is laid on, complementing the surroundings and enhancing the ambiance of the room.
One of the major obstacles that customers encounter when considering a rug is what type of rug to buy in order to effortlessly transform their living space. In order to answer this question, there are three main types of rugs to consider; Hand-Knotted, Hand-Tufted, and Machine Made Rugs.
Machine Made Rugs:
These rugs are mass-produced with machines such as large power looms. They have lower quality and texture than hand-tufted or hand-knotted rugs, making them less durable and more susceptible to wear out.
Hand-Tufted Rug:
These rugs are created with a tool called a tufting gun which a technician uses to trace patterns on canvas back. This process can be done by anyone without much training and is normally done in a factory by unqualified workers. The tufting tool allows the rugs to be produced at a faster pace, but without the detail of hand-knotted rugs. Due to this, they do not hold the same artistic value or the physical durability to last long
Hand-Knotted Rugs:
The most revered type of rug because of its quality, intricate detail, durability, and value. A Hand Knotted rug is a one-of-a-kind rug, woven completely by hand on a special loom. Weaving a hand-knotted rug requires a great amount of skill and it often takes weeks or even months to complete one rug. A hand-knotted can become a family heirloom and last for generations while retaining its value over time. At Tapestry of Rugs, you can be assured that our rugs are 100% hand-knotted by artisans and directly sourced from local communities in major weaving areas of the world.
